Every minute, people around the world are buying approximately one million plastic bottles. Every year, we buy 5 trillion plastic bags. Scientists report that only 9% of all these items are recycled. The majority is littered carelessly across Earth’s surfaces, thrown neglectfully out car windows. The plastic is washed into the ocean. Layering the ocean with harmful materials. Submerging our once clear blue water in layers of plastic. This layer is like a layer of death for marine animals. Instead of using plastic items, use reusable, or decomposable objects. Instead of plastic bags, you can use paper or cloth bags. Instead of plastic water bottles, an alternative source would be a metal water bottle. Instead of plastic straws, use metal or paper straws. There are many more examples of how you could replace your everyday items with more environmentally friendly objects, but start by trying these. Remember, be prepared, be aware, be an awareness spreader!
